In-School Curriculum

Years: 2022 -Current

During the Fall of 2023 C A K E worked with the Culinary Arts Class at Susan Miller Dorsey High School. The students participated in C A K E’s In-School programming. During the semester students had the opportunity to learn from community leaders regarding the importance of prioritizing mental health and the power of regenerative farming. Students explored flavors and spice influences from around the world and had the chance to learn how to cook some delicious nutrient-dense foods.

Special thanks to donations from Kellogg for their donations & Vego Gardens for our planters for the school’s regenerative garden!

  • Students received hands on practice in food production, nutrition, cost control, and sanitation.

  • 84% of students entered the workforce and advanced their career goals. Program graduates were positioned to pursue careers in some of the world’s best full-service restaurants, hotels, and catering operations.

Successfully created an after-school program that served as a LAUSD elective class for students to earn 5 credits.

Each school year we trained 200 students on wellness and nutrition health, growing food hydroponically, creating fresh healthy recipes, practice meditation and yoga, develop interpersonal skills, and become social entrepreneurs.

  • Students increased their health and wellness, 95% of students reported they felt work- life balance is important and practiced skills to alleviate stress.

  • 91% youth increased their social and emotional well-being from utilizing the tools and resources available through the curriculum.

  • 89% of students entered into higher learning.

Enrichment Series Virtual Program

Years: 2019 -2021

Successfully created a new Healthy Lifestyle Enrichment curriculum and partnered with C-CAP LA. The series was offered virtually to 200 students living in Title 1 under-served communities from Long Beach to Oxnard, throughout Los Angeles County.

Conducted a survey at the beginning of the program that resulted in 120 responses from students:

  • Up to 40% reported they are not physically active on a daily basis and often lack energy.

  • Only 16% of students stated they felt calm and at peace.

  • 40% of students reported they eat fresh vegetables.

  • 75% of students reported when they learn new things that have a positive impact on their lives, they incorporate it into their lifestyles.

Currently, we are reflecting on the best practices to measure our success and evaluate the effectiveness of our new online program.

In 2021 Spring semester the Healthy Lifestyle Enrichment Series has expanded to serve 400 “at risk” youth. This series re-imagines education with 19 lessons rooted in health and wellness.
